Usual Description

This course is a comprehensive introduction to the cinema of Turkey, from early short films about Turkey, to the culture of importation in the early Turkish republic, to the development of a national film industry (Yesilcam) in the mid-twentieth century, to Turkish representation in the contemporary art cinema. Students will be given the opportunity to consider the concept of a specifically national cinema in the context of the complex and multiethnic society of modern Turkey.
