Fictions of Total War

First-Year Seminar Program 036

Usual Description

What is total war? How has fiction imagined and responded to total war? And what do Homer and Shakespeare have to do with aliens and zombies? We will examine how total war has been explored and, in some cases, ethically justified through fiction. And we will think about how fiction-about wars from the Trojan War to World War I and zombie invasions-shapes our thinking in the nonfiction world.
