Gabriel García Márquez and Roberto Bolaño: Realism, Magical and Visceral

Hispanic Studies 412

Usual Description

The greatest Latin American novelists of their different generations, Gabriel García Márquez and Roberto Bolaño grew their works out of literary realism, the one founding a new mode of writing (‘magical realism’), the other infusing a hallucinatory power into his otherwise ‘visceral’ works. Besides short stories and novellas by each writer, we will read both of their masterpieces, Cien años de soledad and Los detectives salvajes. Conducted in Spanish.
