Technologies of Writing: From Plato to the Digital Age

First-Year Seminar Program 174

Usual Description

This course will consider how writing practices, old and new, affect the ways we write, read, think, and look at how writing is influenced by historical events, cultural values, and technological advances. We will examine transformations in reading and writing, from oral culture to hypertext, and analyze the impact of these changes on our practices. Students will think critically about the changing nature of writing and write in many forms, including academic papers, experimental essays and websites.
