The Electric Age: Romantic Literature in England

English 220

Usual Description

This course reads early 19th-century British literature as a product of (and influence on) a time of revolution in the political world. The extraordinary – and often radical – Romantic novelists and poets of the early 19th century, including Keats, the Shelleys, Byron, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Austen, used literature to pursue their own imaginative revolutions around such real-world issues as class, enslavement, desire, knowledge, and power. British, 1700-1900.
